Grown out of a house full of culture

Denk.Mal is at home at Trift 32 in Celle, in a house that the Gröschner family bought, renovated and filled with life over the years: with art, with encounter, with cultural work for the city. Out of this practice, Zandra Gröschner founds Denk.Mal this year, with its own clear direction. Focused, structured and personal work with specific groups of people. Not yet another general programme, but depth over breadth, with clearly named people in charge, regular formats and measurable impact.

The name says it all

Denk.Mal is both at once: the "Denkmal", the monument, the place that endures, and "denk mal", the German invitation to stop and think about places, about the city, about what remains of us. Our mission comes from this double meaning. We bring art to where people meet, visible in the urban space and open to all.

The house as a monument

Built in 1765 by a Huguenot hatmaker, the house at Trift 32 has held more than 260 years of history within its walls. It is a monument in itself, and its preservation is part of our statutes. The Gröschner family renovates it step by step to this day, keeps it alive and has opened it to everyone: for Celle, for associations and initiatives, for art, for young people, for anyone who wants to become part of this long story.

To make this possible, to cover the running costs and the restoration and to keep everything affordable, we depend on a community that joins in.

You can rent the rooms, the holiday flat and the garden: for private celebrations, association meetings, workshops, coaching or for working. For questions about availability and prices, just write to us. Our exhibitions help too; part of the proceeds flows back into the house. Anyone who would like to donate beyond that can do so for a specific purpose: for a window, a wall, the staircase or simply for the preservation of the monument. As a recognised non-profit association, we are happy to issue a donation receipt.

Every booking, every participation, every donation helps us keep this house open: for the community, for art, for Celle.

Grown out of practice, not invented at a desk

The Denk.Mal team did not reinvent its projects. It has long been running them: the annual exhibition for pupils and teachers, first integration formats, encounters in the house at Trift 32. Denk.Mal is the formal home for work that began long ago, now under its own name and its own logo.

Why a separate association?

As a non-profit association with a clear social profile, Denk.Mal can submit funding applications in areas that are structurally harder to access for a primarily cultural organisation: integration funding, inclusion work, youth support, women's empowerment, strengthening local associations. Its own legal identity provides the basis for this: its own cooperation agreements, its own funding channels, clear responsibility towards the city community.

As a non-profit association with a social profile, Denk.Mal can apply for funding in areas that are harder to access for a purely cultural organisation: integration, inclusion, youth, women and strengthening local associations. A separate association creates clear responsibility and its own funding channels for this.

We do not run a general programme for everyone. Instead we work in a focused, personal way with specific groups of people, with clearly named contact persons and regular formats.

The statutes date from 31 March 2026; the entry in the register of associations followed on 3 June 2026 (VR 202409, Lüneburg district court). The actual work had begun even earlier, grown out of the cultural work in the house at Trift 32.

Zandra and Roman lead the association together as joint chairpersons and support all projects. All founders support all projects.
