Accessibility
This website should be usable by everyone. Here is what we do for that, and honestly also what does not work yet.
What we do
We build this website with clear contrast, with keyboard operability, with alternative texts for images and in plain language. That is not an afterthought, it is part of the work on every page.
Contrast
Our text sits in a very dark brown, close to black, on light surfaces. On the coloured info boxes the contrast ranges from 8.4 to 1 up to 13.7 to 1. The commonly accepted requirement is 4.5 to 1, so we are at twice to three times that.
Keyboard and screen readers
All links, buttons and expandable panels can be reached with the tab key and triggered with the enter key. The currently selected element gets a visible outline. Images carry alternative texts, and purely decorative images are explicitly marked as such so that screen readers skip them.
Motion
Quite a lot moves on this website: images fade in, tiles lift, headings build up. Anyone whose device is set to reduce motion sees all the content without those effects. Nothing depends on an animation alone.
Language
We write in short sentences and avoid jargon where we can. A version in easy-to-read language does not exist yet. If something is unclear, tell us and we will gladly explain it in person.
What does not work yet
There is no easy-to-read version and no sign language videos. A few older photos have brief image descriptions. And our house at Trift 32 is only step-free on the ground floor, the upper floors can be reached by stairs only. We would rather say so openly than pretend everything is solved.
If you would like to visit us using a wheelchair: there is a ramp into the ground floor through the coach house. Just let us know when you are coming and we will open up for you.
